On Wednesday 13th June fifteen year 9 and 10 boys travelled to Millfield to contest the regional, South West of England final of this year’s ESAA Track and Field Cup.
Having won the Berkshire round emphatically at Palmer Park a number of weeks ago the team saw a couple of changes but still included excellent athletes across the board. There were some incredible performances on the day. With year 10’s Lio Owona and Ekene Ijeomah captaining the side they both lead by example and scored 50+ points each, with Lio winning the overall High Jump event and Ekene the 200m. Year 9 sprinter Brandon Haynes ran the fastest TWBS 100m time in memory with a time of 11.6 seconds which is simply incredible and the team secured a number of other notable finishes in many other events.
Unfortunately on the day the team fell short of qualification for the national final in Gateshead but the future is incredibly bright for TWBS athletics with almost 50% of the boys competing coming from year 9.
There are still several opportunities for the Athletics boys to taste success this year with District finals and league events still to come. Onwards and upwards, Uno Animo.
