Music is a fundamental part of The Windsor Boys’ School whether you’re a musician or singer or both. From beginner to Grade 8 standard there’s a wide range of music to be involved with and enjoy. With two dedicated music rooms, two practice rooms, a fully equipped recording studio and a sixth form music room there’s always a lot going on.
We are very proud to be finalists for the 2nd year running in The National Music Awards, which celebrate excellence in UK music education. We competed in the Best Music Department section gaining excellent recognition for the Upper Schools musical achievements. Two 6th form musicians are amongst the best in the country winning Composition Awards presented at Windsor Castle. We’re delighted to see so many of our sixth form musicians heading to Music Conservatoires next year to continue their musical studies.
Here are some of the exciting musical opportunities at school. The Upper Schools Music Department (Windsor Boys’ and Windsor Girls’) tour every two years. The 2014 tour to Paris included six public concerts across Paris – a highlight being in the very special Disneyland theatre. There was time to be a tourist too around the Paris sights and at Disneyland itself.
Email Mr James Manwaring, Director of Upper Schools Music, firstname.lastname@example.org, for more information or check the music timetable for department activity in school in the timetable tab below.
This is the Boys’ School main performance band. Big Band has around 20 members and is for the big band instruments -brass, percussion, woodwind and electric guitar, bass guitar and keyboard. This is a select ensemble group.
They have played for local politicians and businesses as well as at prestigious events such as Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in Windsor.
Every May they join with Eton College Jazz Band for a fantastic summer performance.
Rehearsals are twice a week at 7.45am.
There are two choirs: Upper Schools Choir and Boys’ Choir. Upper Schools Choir meet once a week with students from The Windsor Girls’ School. This is an opportunity for the group to extend vocal ranges and cover some great pieces.
