February 2016 – The Sir Michael Parkinson Library
We have been lucky enough to receive financial support for the library refurbishment from several organisations and would like to thank the Foyle Foundation, The Friends of TWBS, Waitrose, The Prince Philip Trust Fund and Sir Michael Parkinson. Sir Michael officially re-opened the library on 24th February 2016. We wanted to give the library an identity and as Sir Michael was the first person to offer financial support and as a local resident and former parent at the school we felt it only right to name the library after him.
“Come and join us for the first Friends of TWBS Summer Disco Party. Dance to the best of the 80s and 90s music, relax in our chill out zone and enjoy our very cheap bar! Strictly no children or even large teenagers - this one is for the grown ups. Tickets £10 available on line at https://www.goldengiving.com/event/Disco”
December 2015 - Christmas Market
The Friends working with several school departments held our first ever Christmas Market on Saturday 12th December. We had 25 outside sellers who came in to sell a variety of gift and fashion items and most successfully hoodies with headphones built in! Also selling well were the Christmas decorations made by the Design & Technology department. From the year 10 Dragons Den Challenge the team of Harry Macklin, Ryan Randall and Mikey Martin worked hard all day making organic hot drinks, while Seb Clare-Panton ran his tricky ping pong ball challenge. Fred Dearling, Franky Rolfe and Connor Foligno entertained the shoppers (and everyone else nearby!) with their musical wheel of four-tunes and Ailbhe Frazer sold his Christmas tree Bluetooth speakers. While Connor rested his vocal chords, Mr Manwaring took the stage with some of our musicians and entertained us playing carols for half an hour. Mrs Lane, Mr Higgs and the business studies students were also on hand to welcome the final wave of their customers collecting the Christmas trees ordered in November. The roast pork baps were a big hit thanks to Tony Fallows in the kitchen slow roasting the pork overnight and Lindsey Blake’s excellent home-made stuffing and apple sauce. The Camps International students showed their baking skills, stocking a fully laden cake stall and raising some funds towards their trip to Peru in 2017. Overall it was a brilliant day which raised £1,400 towards our funds from the main event with the various departments benefiting independently from their efforts, lets hope this is the first event of many which will grow and grow. Many thanks to all the parents and students who supported the event either as shoppers or through helping with advertising, leafleting, setting up, parking, selling raffle tickets, food prep, washing up, manning stalls, clearing up and special thanks to the Site Team for their support. Thanks also to www.chargebus.co.uk for their sponsorship of the event. Amanda, Severine, Jackie, Lindsey, Laura and the Friends team.
December 2015 - Uno Amino Dinner Dance
Thank you to all who came to The Uno Animo Dinner Dance on Saturday. The excellent Windsor Upper Schools Big Band got everyone into a festive spirit to kick off the evening. Followed by delicious hand made canapés served by members of The Windsor Boys’ Boat Club. We were lucky to have two great compares for the night – Mr Manwaring and Mr Wilkinson. Both very enthusiastically and successfully encouraged everyone to part with their cash in the Heads and Tails game and auctions. We hope everyone enjoys their wins. We would finally like to say a big THANKS for the generous support of staff, parents and students who made the evening go so well. It could not happen without everyone giving their time and effort so freely. From Friday to Sunday we had your support and are really appreciative. It was a fantastic Uno Animo evening which raised an outstanding £13,300 for the school. All students will benefit from this as it is invested in the school. We hope to see you all next year on Saturday 3rd December 2016 The Friends of TWBS.
May 2015 - Painting the Library
The Friends of TWBS were also busy in the library this half term painting the walls white and the radiators grey. Many thanks to Laura Pigo, Lindsey Blake, Jackie Cook, Bianca Morriss, Helen Boundy and Liz Smith. Plus thanks to site team Mark and Kilonzo for doing the high up bits!
May 2015 - River Trail Run Parking Fundraiser
The first Sunday of half term was the River Trail Run Parking Fundraiser for the school. A great turnout from parent volunteers ensured 380 cars were expertly parked in more or less straight lines and £1600 was raised for the school. Thank you to all those who volunteered at the event. Next up is the triathlon car parking fundraiser. If you would like to volunteer please email us at email@example.com for details. We still have slots to fill on both Saturday 13th June and Sunday 14th June and need parents to both take money and to park cars.
Many thanks from The Friends of Windsor Boys’ School.
April 2015 - Waitrose Donation
Each month every Waitrose branch donates £1,000 between three local good causes suggested by its customers as part of its Community Matters Scheme. The Friends’ applied to Waitrose Windsor asking for support for the library refurbishment and we were lucky enough to be chosen as one of its three causes for the month of April 2015. We received £238 and are very grateful to Waitrose and our local shoppers.
March 2015 - Friends of TWBS Quiz Night
Thanks to everyone who came to the Friends of TWBS Quiz Night on Friday. 120 came to test their knowledge on quiz questions set by Martin Stanford, aka the award-winning broadcaster with Sky News HD. Teams were made of students, parents and staff with some unusual/hastily decided team names selected. Congratulations to the team of mainly students called “We thought it was a disco” who won convincingly with 168 points. 2nd and 3rd places going to “2b decided” and “Gavin’s team” with 151 and 149 points respectively . Everyone enjoyed the delicious chilli, hot dogs and ice creams too. £1,300 was raised for TWBS sports which is fantastic.
