Next week, the major highlight of the rowing and sporting calendar will see The Windsor Boys’ School out competing for The Fawley Challenge Cup as the 1st Quad were pre-qualified following their success at the Nationals a few weeks ago. Also hoping to join the quad at the regatta will be the eight, who need to qualify by attending and racing at the qualification races held this Friday over in Henley.
Henley Royal Regatta is an incredible, world class event, attracting crews from all over the world, and to see the school, a normal state comprehensive competing on such a stage is an achievement in itself, given all the challenges to make rowing work at the school.
Once again, the regatta will be broadcast live on BT sport and through YouTube. The production is super high definition, and nothing makes rowing look better than the footage that is shown. Support for the boys is always incredible, but will reach fever pitch through the regatta, with huge alumni support as well as current boys and parents. I encourage everyone to tune in and watch.
All links to YouTube and race times will be published on the boat club’s Facebook page via this link - https://www.facebook.com/windsorboysboatclub
I hope you can tune in and watch, and please do encourage all the boys to watch too. It may be only one or hopefully two boats, but they represent everyone connected to the school, past, present and future and success for the crews will take a huge team effort, which includes all the supporters.
So please do shout “Come on Windsor!”, even if it is just at your TV. It is also not unknown for the local pubs to have it showing live too!
Please see this link for the semi final action from last years regatta, where the crew after five days of racing made it all the way to final only to lose narrowly – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6aElp8neSk
