Saturday 3rd February saw over 60 boys compete at Hampton Head of River. The first event of 2018 also saw the new J14 (year 9) crews out for the first time in a race. It takes a long time when learning the sport to be ready to race, and these current year 9 have been coming down regularly since September. Getting to the start line is one thing; getting to the finish line is quite another.
A 3000m race, as well as about 4km of additional rowing to get to the start and back to the landing stages.
Over 700 boats took part from all year groups across the day - it is a big event. The weather was - terrible! But hey ho, the boys were out in force.
Congratulations to Charlie Warren, Ben Lawson, Maxton Meehan, Max Griffin Sadler, William Parr, Marcus Chute, Kyle Macklin, Dylan James, Max Evans, Alex Walker, Charlie Dunnett, Ben Lewin, Will Mumford, Alfie Davies and Jake Ingham who were all presented with their Boat Club tie in recognition of achieving their first race, which has taken many months of commitment, patience, desire, teamwork, learning, hard work, dedication, robustness, frustration and more to achieve.

Meanwhile the year 10s, 11s and 6th form where also out racing too, many in both divisions across the day. No outright wins, but lots to suggest we are in a good place going forward.
