Friday was another successful day down at the Bowls Club!

10 boys made the journey to Maidenhead Indoor Bowls Club, planning who was going to play who on the way there.

“Who would like to play against our two best female bowlers from Newlands Girls School” came the question on arrival…

Without any hesitation up stood Joseph Whiter and Matt Knight, “We will!”

And so came about TWBS’ first ‘organised’ bowls fixture against another school. 8 ends of 8 woods. Jo Whiter, Lead, and Matt Knight, Skip, were playing for only the second time whilst both girls have been playing regularly each week for the last year.

It was a great start for the boys, picking up a single on the first end. Jo Whiter, bowling like a seasoned pro, got a lot of attention from the club’s coaches as each remarked on the quality of his delivery.  Both boys consistently bowled to a high standard, every end putting the pair from Newlands Girls School under great pressure.

And so it finished 12-0 to TWBS, a surprisingly comfortable and impressive performance from the boys. Come on!

The boys are already looking forward to next Friday, but should be congratulated for their strong performance on the green.

There are some really talented bowlers developing at the school and in typical TWBS fashion are sending a great message to the local community that TWBS boys are up for any challenge, even if it is just playing “that boring sport played by old people”.
