The Boat Club Boys have been out in force in recent weeks across all year groups. Training has been pretty relentless so it was really great to see the boys out racing at the WBSBC Club Championship held at Dorney Lake, Bedford Head of River, Half term training camp, and the British Long Distance Trials in Boston Lincolnshire.
British Trials: Friday 16th - Sunday 18th February
Three more days away in Boston Lincolnshire saw Bryn Ellery Isaac Workman and Julian Van Gelderen competing at the British trials. Training Friday, and racing Saturday and Sunday, they came away with a fantastic set of results.
Julian racing in the year 11 J16 catergory, won the single event on Saturday and then went on to win the double event on the Sunday too, with a scratch partner. A fantastic achievement from this up and coming athlete.
Meanwhile Isaac Workman came 9th in the J18 singles event and then 5th on the Sunday on the doubles event with his partner from Leander Club.
Bryn Ellery, following on from last year’s awesome year, came 4th in the J18 singles event before winning the J18 doubles event.
All three will hope this leads towards a British vest later on this year at one of the major international regattas.
Half term training
Monday to Saturday saw more than 80 boys out training either at Dorney Lake or at the Boathouse from all year groups. Fantastic to see so many boys committed to their training!
Bedford Head of River
More than 50 boys competed at the Bedford Head of River on Sunday 11th February. A very long day’s racing eventually saw a fine first win for the J14s and a win for the J15s, both in the coxed quad event. Great Racing!
WBSBC Club Championship, Dorney Lake
Nearly 80 boys competed in the Club Championships mostly in single sculls, with the J14s also joining in too. A great day’s racing experience eventually saw Bryn Ellery crowned Club Champion for 2018. Well done to him, but well done to everyone for racing so well in very challenging conditions
Overall, the boat club has had a good winter’s training block and pushes on towards training camp at Easter. Onwards we go
