Authors Visit to Celebrate World Book Day 2018

World Book Day is a small independent charity, funded by sponsor National Book Tokens, publishers and booksellers.  Their message now is the same as when they were founded 21 years ago: to give children access to books and to show that reading is fun, accessible, exciting and has the power to transform lives.  They want every child and young person to explore the wonderful world of books and bookshops, and the many amazing places they can take your imagination.

To celebrate World Book Day next Thursday 1st March all boys will be given a voucher for use at local book shops either to swap for a specially written World Book Day book or to redeem as £1 off the purchase of any book or audiobook worth £2.99 or more.  The vouchers are valid until Sunday 25th March 2018.

On Tuesday 27th February we have author Taran Matharu visiting school to speak to year 10.  Taran was born in London in 1990 and found a passion for reading at a very early age. At twenty-two, while taking time off to travel, Taran began to write the Summoner series. Thanks to and updating daily, its popularity dramatically increased, reaching over three million reads in less than six months. After being featured by NBC News, Taran decided to launch his professional writing career and has never looked back.  A special edition of the Novice has been published for World Book Day.  The book will retail at £2.50 and the boys can redeem their voucher worth £1 off that price.

On Thursday 1st March we have author and illustrator Curtis Jobling visiting to speak to year 9.  Curtis writes teen horror books (as well as being the illustrator who designed Bob the Builder and other children’s animations).  He has also worked on Wallace & Grommit.  His talks cover three distinct areas of the creative curriculum—literacy, art and media.  Books will be available to purchase on the day (please note the WBD £1 vouchers are NOT redeemable on the purchase of Curtis’ books).

Meeting authors is a very motivating and rewarding experience and we are sure the boys will enjoy the sessions enormously.
