Prestigious coaching award for Mark Wilkinson

Mark Wilkinson, our Director of Rowing, has been awarded a prestigious coaching award from British Rowing for all his brilliant achievements this year.  It was announced just before Christmas that he had won the Daniel Topolski Award as the GB Rowing Team Development Coach of 2017.

This award for Mark is in recognition of his significant coaching successes for both Windsor Boys and GB over the last few years but in particular last year where he had a fantastic season.  I hope everyone knows about the success of TWBS boat club last year at Henley, the National Schools and the National Championships, but some may not be so familiar with Mark Wilkinson’s key role in the success of the GB Junior section in summer 2017. GB won four medals, including two golds, at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Trakai, with Wilkinson’s men’s quadruple sculls taking an excellent silver medal. Overall GB came second in the medal table.

As a school we are extremely fortunate to have a national level coach as our director of rowing, and to have an award winning coach is truly amazing.  We are all extremely proud of Mr Wilkinson and know that he thoroughly deserves this national recognition.  As always, he did not expect this honour and is very modest about everything he has done, attributing it all to the dedication of the athletes in the school and the junior GB squad.  But we know that his expertise as a coach is a major factor in the success of so many boys in the fine sport of rowing.  Congratulations.
