On 9th November, 45 students from The Windsor Boys’ School Physics Society were welcomed by the Head of Astrophysics from UCL - Professor Serena Viti for the Society’s first lecture of 2017/18.
The talk took us through the journey of the life of a star, from the formation over millions of years to the spectacular death. Many thought-provoking questions were answered such as how organic matter is distributed from the blazing inferno of fusion and how such data is analysed leading to a greater chance of finding life. The Professor’s specialism is molecular astrophysics, and this shined through as we were shown how and why certain compounds are found millions of light years away in space.
