A match under floodlights saw in the 1st XI’s first fixture of 2018. Players still getting over the Christmas holidays and a few injuries, some of the boys found themselves playing out of position. The opposition had done their homework and knew our reputation from last year’s National Cup success. It became very clear that Edgbarrow had a clear tactic: physicality.
Windsor started strongly with a clear difference in football ability and Edgbarrow were struggling to get out of their half. A corner was played in and Louis Maggs leapt into the air to head the ball home, 1-0 Windsor. Within five minutes both teams conceded penalties and both teams scored them, 2-1 Windsor, at half time.
The second half both teams settled down with the majority of the play in midfield with Adam Forder controlling the back four. Edgbarrow knew they needed to get a goal and started to put more pressure on our defence. Joe Whiter made two fantastic saves one down low with his feet and the other up high tipped over the bar. Full time 2-1 Windsor
Man of the Match: Adam Forder and Joe Whiter
