The Year 10 hockey team have had a very hard end to the season with games against very talented opponents in Shiplake, John Hampden and Eton. Although all three games ended up in losses, the boys have showed a fantastic Uno Animo spirit and have shown improvement game after game even when they had their backs to the wall.
Important lessons have been learnt, such as Will ‘the cat’ Smith our A team goalie, now must always check he has ALL of his keeper kit before we get to an away fixture - as we arrived at Shiplake only to find he was missing two vital parts…..Shiplake were very good about the issue, and both teams played a fiercely contested game without keepers that was won by only one goal.
The other two games really tested Windsor’s defensive set up, and although we conceded a few goals the boys heads never dropped and their effort was amazing. Fantastic performances from Kai Ziemkendorf and Freddie Fearnley at the back stopped many attacks and without Will Smith’s amazing saves, Eton could have easily scored 10+ goals. After some international style umpiring from their umpire, Windsor conceded over 20 short corners but limited Eton to just 2 goals from them. In midfield Matthew King and Matthew Wellington worked tirelessly in trying to set up counter attacks with the hard working Mason Bell and Fraser Upton up front.
We are extremely proud of this great group of lads, the season has been hard work for the them but they have gained great experience as they progress into Senior hockey next year.
