On Wednesday we hosted our careers fair at TWBS to celebrate National Careers Week and National Apprenticeship Week 2018.
Our links with businesses, both local and national have developed over the past few years and we were delighted to welcome back Barclays Bank, GSK, Jacobs, Jaguar Land Rover, Mars and Shanly Homes to name just a few. We also welcomed some new businesses such as, Romans Estate Agents, BPS and Winshaw.
We had careers and employability workshops delivered to sixth form pupils by Rosie Nice of ESB Training and Working Options. In addition boys in Year 11 and 13 had the opportunity to work on their interview skills thanks to the support of staff from Barclays who ran these sessions.
It was great to see so many ex-pupils on the exhibitor stands at GSK, Jaguar, BPS, Winshaw, as well as ex-boy James Ski, who heads up our TWBS Alumni and has recently set up his own business, Sales Confidence. James is currently recruiting for his new business and his mission is to employ Windsor Boys. A surprise new addition to the careers fair was the Ritzy Salon, who brought in ex-boy Ryan Pons to demonstrate his barber skills – needless to say he had a steady flow of customers with many pupils and staff getting a ‘fresh trim’.
Vocational college courses are an option for pupils who wish to pursue a vocational career path and representatives from BCA, East Berks, Henley and Reading College spoke to pupils about the wide range of course available at their colleges.
There has been a steady growth in apprenticeships as they are a fantastic way to earn and learn at the same time and the majority of the companies who exhibited at the careers fair offer apprenticeships and many had live vacancies, including Barclays, GSK, Jaguar, Mars and Romans. Pupils were given information and contact details to aid them with the application process.
Thank you to all the exhibitors and workshop providers who helped make TWBS Careers Fair 2018 a success.
