Athletics (Summer Term)
Athletics is a major sport for the boys and is one of the most successful sports in the summer term. Students in years 9 and 10 compete in both the local Knight Frank and District Championships as well as in the ESAA Track and Field Cup. Training occurs every Friday after school at TVAC and is perfect opportunity to give any event a try.
In recent years the school has won all local athletics competitions and will regularly qualify for the ESAA Track and Field Cup final, ranking the school in the top 12 on the country.
In addition to this, year in and year out, the school produces athletes that go on to represent Berkshire and gain medals at the English Schools, a stepping stone event for many international athletes.
The athletics season finished on yet another high as a combined Year 9 and 10 team were victorious at the RBWM Athletics league final.
14 athletes, 24 events, 1 relay and one decision that changed the feeling of an entire days effort.
On Saturday 10th June, The Windsor Boys’ School had 21 boys representing Windsor and Maidenhead at the County Athletics Championships.
Despite a week of wet and stormy weather, we were able to find a day of dry weather to host the annual sports day.
On Thursday, the current crop of year 9 and 10 athletes competed in the county round of the track and Field Cup.
Last Friday, the Windsor Boys’ cross country team for years 9 and 10 travelled to Downe House School near Newbury for the Berkshire Cross Country championship.
Congratulations to Jake Norris has just recently won the gold medal in the Sainsbury Schools Games and has set a new record with a hammer throw of 70.65m.
A combination of Year 10 work experience and over 70 boys enjoying an outdoor expedition in Wales gave the opportunity for some keen Year 9 athletes to show what they can do in the final of the Knight Frank Schools Athletics League.
Over the last 10 years, The Windsor Boys’ School has emerged as one of the leading schools for Track and Field Cup athletics.
