6th Form admissions

Admission to the Sixth Form

Entry to the Sixth Form at The Windsor Boys’ School is dependent upon a character reference from the student’s current Head of Year 11 and upon meeting entry requirements for the particular courses selected; these entry requirements are the same for students who are already on roll at the school and external applicants.

Priority will be given to applications from students who are already on roll at the school. External applicants will be offered places if there are spaces available in their selected subjects.

Internal candidates

There is no application form for current Windsor Boys’ School students. Around Christmas time, Year 11 students notify the school of their wish to stay on in the Sixth Form. If their work ethic and behaviour in school to date has been positive, a one-to-one meeting will be set up with the Sixth Form staff to provide guidance about making appropriate subject choices. On GCSE results day, a senior member of staff will meet each student to confirm that they have achieved the required entry grades for their chosen subjects and that their preferred combination is possible in the timetable. Students will then officially be signed up to The Windsor Boys’ School Sixth form.

External candidates

External candidates must submit an application form to The Windsor Boys’ School which can be downloaded from the Sixth Form section of the school website http://twbs.co.uk/6th-form-admissions/.  Applications should be made to the school before May half term in the academic year preceding the year of entry. Places will be considered upon receipt of the completed application form, and notification of predicted grades and a character reference from the student’s current school. Students may be invited to interview and all applicants will be informed of the school’s decision in writing.

If the student is refused admission, both parents/carers and the student have the right to appeal, either jointly or separately.  If the appeal is lodged separately, both appeals will be heard together.

In the event of over-subscription for particular courses, external applications will be prioritised in the following order:

  • Boys with statements of special educational needs or an Education, Health and Care plan that names the school and who meet the entry requirements for their courses
  • Boys who are looked after or were previously looked after and who meet the entry requirements for their courses – this will use the same definitions as set out above
  • Boys with siblings who would be in the sixth form at a school or in the Trust at the time of admission and who meet the entry requirements for their courses – this will use the same definitions as set out above
  • All other applications that meet the entry requirements for their courses

The tiebreaker in each category will be distance measured in a straight line from the address point of the student’s house as determined by Ordnance Survey to the address point of the school using the local authority’s GIS system.

Course Requirements

Please note that places in some subjects will be very limited and that minimum qualifications for entry may have to be exceeded.
